CHILDREN AND AGED ORPHANS RECEIVE EYE CHECK FROM SPECS. Saturday. March 1, 2014
Recently, SPECS Foundation conducted a special medical mission at Missionaries of Charity Home of Joy for the Sick Children located in Tayuman, Tondo Manila.
In a two-day eye screening the organization was able to reach out to some children with multiple disability who likewise needed eye screening check and vision therapy. There were at least four SPECS clinicians that conducted the said screening.
The second day of the free eye check up catered to the abandoned aged of the said institution. They are senior citizens who have been left by their families or have no one to look after them.
Most of these aged orphans have eye diseases such as cataract and low vision due to aging.
“It was like an answered prayer that SPECS Foundation approached us. Just right in time when I was hoping that somebody could help the growing number of seniors who complain about their eyesight” shared one of the head sisters of the Mission house.
SPECS brought their equipment and tools for eye screening in the two institutions for the convenience of the beneficiaries. Eyeglasses were provided to those that need it while referral for cataract surgery were given to the elderly patients that need immediate ophthalmologic attention.
SPECS did not also forget to screen the eye conditions of the sisters of the two institutions. The sisters’ eye health is more so very important as they are the ones that give their full time helping our aged brothers and sisters as well as the helpless and young orphans.
Through the sustainable strategy of SPECS eye train clinic as well as the donations the patients themselves give outreach programs and medical missions such as this became possible.
