EYE MISSION IN ALBAY SLATED ON APRIL 2015, CANADIAN DOCTORS TO TRAIN FILIPINO OPTOMETRISTS

ALBAY - Slated this April 13-17, 2015 is Canadian Vision Care and SPECS Foundation’s 5 day Eye Care Mission along the surrounding towns of Mayon Volcano, province of Albay where residents of the towns of Polanggui, Daraga, Maanito, and Legazpi are will be visited by the a group of Canadian and Filipino eye doctors to diagnose their optical condition and raise awareness on vision care and general eye health care.


 

The Canadian doctors are expected to arrive in two batches (April 9 and April 11) and to be welcomed by Arch. Raymundo Mateo and Miss Pau Dela Cruz representing SPECS team.


Following CVC team’s arrival is the orientation and visit to institutions in the vicinity of the Eye Train and their introduction to the beneficiaries. Below are the list of the Canadian and Filipino doctors who are participating in the mission. Optician’s training is also schedule as well in SPECS clinic at PNR Grounds, Mayhaligue, Tondo, Manila.  


Canadian Vision Care Team includes Bob Erlandson, Ginny Erlandson Barry Thiennes Shirley Thiennes Zain Jivraj Read. Leigh Read, Kim Burgera, Peter Laansso, Gabriella Torano, Brenda Everette, Clark Layden, Gordon Van Dam, Allan Jones, Maria Santos,Lazaro Santos.


Filipino Optometry Doctors for the Albay Mission includes Reymond C. Perez, O.D., April T. Nayve , O.D., and Paul Mangeo L. Dela Cruz, O.D..



SPECS Foundation and Canadian Vision Care: Partners in Eye Care Outreach Projects


SPECS along with the Canadian Vision Care are continuously searching for more and more communities especially in the rural areas in the Philippines and provide the residents with proper eye examination, their respective eye glasses, the recommendation for urgent procedures based on their results such as possible operation and the like.  


Previous eye mission has more than positive results in terms of the number of beneficiaries served as every eye mission’s effect create a more concerned community, inspired and very well motivated local leaders. This coming eye mission project is expected to yield the same result to the communities of the province of Albay and Bicol region as a whole.

The Provincial Government of Albay through the office of Governor Joey Sarte Salceda were very helpful in the coordination and planning this Eye Care Project since its preparation months ahead.


Being a third world country, the Philippines need as much help as it can get from people who have sincere concern to its people. Hence, SPECS, in behalf of the Filipinos who have received attention, time and expertise from the Canadian doctors,  the eye mission is not just a humanitarian service but a hope shared to many of the underprivileged Filipinos.
