March 13, 2014

The Rotary Club of San Marcelino together with All Nations Women’s Club donated 4 suitcases of frames and lenses to the Special Eye Care Solutions Foundation Inc. or SPECS during a turn over event held last March 13, 2014 at the SPECS Eye Train Clinic located at the PNR Grounds in Tutuban Manila.

The said event was attended by outstanding leaders namely: District 3810 Governor Karen Lee Tamayo, District 3810 Rotary Club President Philip Henry Jacobo, All Nations Women’s Club Charter President Arlene L. Jacobo with a special presence from Hong Kong Rotary International Representative, Mr. David.

The said event is an answer to the long awaited joint project of SPECS and Rotary Club of San Marcelino that formally engaged to generate means of helping indigenous Filipinos through a memorandum of agreement which was signed a little later after the opening of the Eye Train Clinic.

The event started at 3pm with the train jam-packed with members and officials of Rotary Club and All Nations Women’s Club as well as the leaders of the PNR Union including President Edgar Bilayon.

That same day there were some special children from a school in Manila scheduled to have their eyes checked.

Meanwhile, in an interview with President Philip Jacobo, District 3810 Rotary Club of San Marcelino Malate Manila, he shared that “this is a good start for us, a big project for Rotary Club of San Marcelino.  Eventually we can have other good projects to come. We are open to provide help for any project or help requested by SPECS.”

The Rotary Club of San Marcelino has likewise been extending their arms to reach more indigents particularly in Tondo through the efforts of the members in implementing programs such as feeding programs and giving foods which they have been doing in the past 5 years.

“It is our club’s first project that rendered help in the area of health care” shared District 3810 RC President Philip Henry Jacobo.

SPECS Founder Andronica Roma was very pleased as the members and officials shared their time and genuine involvement to the goals of the foundation for its beneficiaries.   “I am glad that many have already showed interest in providing support for SPECS.  I am certain that little by little, the donations such as the frames and lenses can reach more number of Filipinos out there who need this for their vision problems.”

SPECS continues to provide medical missions in different regions of the country.  This summer the SPECS team is bound for Tacloban in Visayas Philippines to render a free eye medical mission to the typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan survivors.
